The Nissan LEAF is getting a bold transformation. Nissan will soon unveil the next-generation LEAF — not just as an electric hatchback, but as a sleek, high-riding crossover. Ahead of the official launch, a new video from Nissan offers a closer look at what’s to come.
A Pioneer Returns
Since its debut in 2010, the LEAF has sold over 700,000 units worldwide, helping to kickstart the global shift toward electric vehicles. It gave buyers an alternative to petrol cars long before generous incentives or government mandates became widespread.
While the LEAF was once top of the EV charts, it eventually lost ground to newer competitors like Tesla, even after a significant upgrade in 2017. Now, Nissan is determined to bring the LEAF back into the spotlight with its third-generation model.
What We Know So Far
- First previewed in March, the new LEAF will make its full debut by the end of June.
- It’s built on the same platform as the Nissan Ariya, hinting at similar performance and tech.
- Expect a moonroof, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a striking new silhouette.
- Aerodynamic touches include flush door handles, active grille shutters, and a flat underbody — all helping it achieve an impressive drag coefficient of 0.25 and a targeted range of around 370 miles.
One standout feature is the optional panoramic roof, which skips the traditional sunblind. Instead, it uses electromagnetic technology to adjust its transparency. An infrared coating helps reduce heat, boosting comfort while maintaining headroom.
Nissan plans to release two more videos ahead of the full reveal — stay tuned as the countdown to launch continues.
