Polestar 3 Breaks Guinness World Record for Longest Journey by an Electric SUV on a Single Charge
The Polestar 3, a high-performance electric SUV, has made history by setting a Guinness World Record for the longest journey ever travelled by an electric SUV on a single charge. The record-breaking feat saw the recently launched Long Range Single Motor variant of the Polestar 3 cover an astonishing 581.3 miles (935.44 km) in one continuous drive -pushing the limits of electric vehicle range and efficiency.
A Test of Endurance and Efficiency
The journey was completed in 22 hours and 57 minutes under mixed weather conditions, including rain, and tested the vehicle’s ability to maintain optimal efficiency throughout the drive. Despite the challenging conditions, the Polestar 3 demonstrated impressive performance, achieving an efficiency rating of 12.1 kWh/100 km (or 19.5 kWh/100 miles).
Surpassing Expectations
The Polestar 3 not only surpassed its WLTP range of 438 miles (706 km) on a single charge, but it also continued to drive well past what was expected. After reaching the 0% battery mark, the vehicle managed to cover an additional 8 miles (12.8 km), showing just how much extra life the battery had before ultimately reaching a charging station.
The journey ended with 20% battery remaining, a remarkable demonstration of the vehicle’s ability to stretch its capabilities well beyond what was originally estimated.
Polestar’s Commitment to Innovation
Polestar’s CEO, Michael Lohscheller, expressed pride in the achievement, noting, “We are very proud to say we have a world record holder in the Polestar family! This official Guinness World Record for range is another proof point that Polestar 3 is setting new standards. We will continue to push the boundaries of technology and electric performance.”
Meanwhile, Matt Galvin, Managing Director of Polestar UK, highlighted the significance of the record in the broader context of electric vehicle evolution. “While the drivers pushed the Polestar 3 to the boundaries of its range capability, it goes to show how battery range has improved exponentially over the past few years. For a large premium SUV to go way beyond a London to Edinburgh distance is truly impressive. With this, the adage that ‘EVs can’t go far’ has been very much consigned to the history books.”
A Fully Standard Polestar 3
What makes this record even more impressive is that the Polestar 3 was completely standard during the attempt. The SUV used its production-spec components, including 20-inch wheels fitted with Michelin Sport 4 EV tyres, and no modifications were made to improve its performance. The entire journey was adjudicated by a Guinness World Records official, Paulina Sapinska, with data verified by Webfleet. This included independent video footage, odometer readings, GPS coordinates, and battery data, ensuring that every detail of the attempt was accurately documented.
Additionally, the AA provided support during the challenge, ensuring that the team could successfully complete the journey without any major incidents.
A Milestone for Electric Vehicles
Polestar’s world record achievement marks a significant milestone in the development of electric vehicles, particularly in the SUV category. The Polestar 3’s impressive performance not only sets new expectations for range but also shows how far EV technology has come in just a few short years.
With innovations like this, the future of electric SUVs is looking brighter than ever, and Polestar is firmly positioned at the forefront of that evolution.
