Our Type 2 to CEE chargers are normally returned for one of the reasons below. Reading this information may help you to avoid having to send your charger back to us. Please also read the information further down the page as it contains important information about this CEE charger.

Will the CEE plug fit your CEE / Commando socket? You will need to check the phase and amp rating of the socket to ensure that you are buying the correct charger. A 3 Phase socket will have 5 holes and usually have a red cover and a 1 Phase socket will have 3 holes and a blue cover. The Amp rating is usually on the cover of the socket and will state 16 or 32.

Is the cable long enough? Measure the length from your CEE / Commando socket to where your vehicle will usually be parked (the Type 2 vehicle socket is usually on the right side, to the rear of the vehicle) and add half a metre to avoid over stretching the cable.

Is this CEE charger compatible with my vehicle? If you know that your EV has a Type 2 socket, then this Type 2 to CEE charger is compatible with your vehicle. The vehicle will also adjust the current it receives to ensure that the EV will not receive more current than it’s battery will allow. If you are not sure if your vehicle has a Type 2 socket, please view the photos of a Type 2 socket on this page and match them with the vehicle. You can also view a list of Type 2 socket EV’s below, or use our EV Cable Finder.

Is this a rapid charging cable? This is not a CCS cable. If you want a cable to use with a DC rapid charger, you do not need to buy one as the cable is always attached to the unit.

Is This 32A 3 Phase Commando Charger Suitable For The Mercedes EQB?

Choosing The Right Charger

The 32A Commando plug will be compatible with your Commando socket if it is 3 Phase 32A, so please check that your socket has 5 pins and states “32A” or “32” on the socket. If your socket is 3 Phase 16A, you will need the 3 Phase 16A CEE charger.

For EV charging, it’s important to ensure the power socket is suitable. Therefore, we recommend a qualified electrician to certify that both the socket and supply are suitable for EV charging.

The Mercedes EQB has a Type 2 socket as standard, ensuring compatibility with this charger. Please note that the manufacturer of this vehicle did not manufacture this charging cable.

Please also check the information at the top of this page, “Please Read Before You Buy”, to help avoid the most common reasons for returning a charging cable.

Do You Want A Charger With Multiple Adapters?

If you’re in search of an EV charger that is compatible with various power sockets, then consider our multi-adapter charger. The charger supports charging from both 1 Phase and 3 Phase sockets, and provides a current range of 6A to 32A.

This charger allows connection to a variety of outlets. For instance, the 3 pin and 5 pin Commando sockets, the 13A mains socket, and the 16A Euro (Schuko) socket. You have the flexibility to choose the specific adapters you need for your charger. Furthermore, it incorporates a charging timer, enabling charging to start anywhere from 1 to 10 hours after being plugged in. When using the 3 pin UK plug adapter, the charger will automatically select a safe 10A charging mode.

For a detailed breakdown of the maximum currents provided by the multi-adapter charger when used with different adapter/power outlets, refer to the table below:

Adapter & OutletMax kW
3 Phase CEE 32A22kW
3 Phase CEE 16A11kW
1 Phase CEE 32A7,4kW
1 Phase CEE 16A3,7kW
UK 13A 2,2kW
Schuko 16A3,7kW

The maximum current displayed in the above table will not necessarily align with the current that the EV/PHEV can accept. In other words, the vehicle can only accept up to the maximum current of its onboard charger (OBC).

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this charger every day?

Yes. IEC 60309 CEE sockets and plugs are built to withstand harsh, demanding environments and therefore provide robust durability that is capable of 3 Phase 315V to 415V capacity, which is superior to standard domestic outlets. Please ensure that an electrician checks the condition of your CEE socket, especially if you are going to use it to regularly charge your Mercedes EQB.

Is it safe to charge my vehicle from a 32A 3 phase CEE socket?

Yes – as long as the socket is in good condition it is safe to charge your Mercedes EQB model with this charger. The charger also includes in-built safety mechanisms and is certified to comply with the IEC 627572 standard for Mode 2 charging whereby the vehicle is connected to a three phase CEE socket.

Can I use this charger overnight?

Yes, if your CEE socket is in good condition, you can safely charge overnight. The charger automatically regulates the temperature of the control box and shuts off if needed. There is also a delay timer that can pause charging for up to 10 hours after it is plugged in.

Will the delay timer setting on the charger conflict with the vehicle's scheduled charging settings?

The Mercedes EQB‘s scheduled charging function can be used independently to initiate and terminate the charging. The scheduled charging function needs to be set first; then the charger plugged in (ensure that the delay timer on the charger is not set); set the current; then insert the Type 2 plug into the Type 2 socket of the vehicle. Ensure that scheduled charging is only set via the infotainment console in the car or the vehicle app. Using both the timer delay and the vehicle’s schedule charging setting can cause a conflict.

Is this charger capable of charging at 1 Phase and 3 Phase?

Yes. The charger is designed to switch to 220V – 240V if a vehicle has a single phase socket and between 380V to 415V if the vehicle has a 3 Phase socket. This ensures that a vehicle will only draw up to the maximum capacity of it’s Onboard charger.

What are the charging speeds of a 3 Phase 32A CEE charger

The 32A three phase CEE charger can charge up to 11kW. The approximate charging speeds are displayed in the table below. Calculations displayed are for 1 Phase vehicle / 3 Phase vehicle:

Current Range per hour
10A 2,3 kW / 7 kW 6 to 9 miles / 21 to 28 miles
16A 3,7 kW / 11 kW 10 to 15 miles / 33 to 44 miles
26A 6,0 kW / 18 kW 21 to 27 miles / 54 to 72 miles
32A 7,4 kW / 22kW 23 to 33 miles / 66 to 88 miles

Please note… this table is illustrating the maximum charging speeds that this CEE charger is capable of delivering to a vehicle.

The charging speeds that your vehicle will receive during charging is also influenced by the following factors:

The vehicle’s maximum charging capacity: A vehicle that has a 3kW AC onboard charger will only receive a maximum 3kW from this charger. A vehicle that has an 11kW AC onboard charger will only receive a maximum 11kW from this charger.

Charging efficiency: Heavier or less efficient vehicles (SUVs for example) will gain fewer miles per hour, while smaller, more efficient cars will gain more. The health of the battery will also influence the charging speed.

Environmental Factors: Charging speeds and battery efficiency can decrease in cold weather, resulting in slightly fewer miles of range per hour. If the car is charging during a particularly hot day and the plugs become too hot, charging times may take longer if the cable, vehicle socket or charging point overheats.

Is the charger waterproof?

This charger consists of four main components: the blue CEE plug (camping plug), the cable, the control box (unit), and the Type 2 plug.

Blue CEE plug: The plug is protected from water when you plug it into a CEE socket. Make sure the plug is fully inserted into the CEE socket.

Cable: The cable is waterproof as long as the cable sheathing has no cuts or cracks.

Control box: The standard control box complies with protection class IP65. This protection class means that the control box can withstand light rain. If the control box is located outdoors, shelter it from heavy rain and ensure that it is not exposed to standing water.

Type 2 plug: The Type 2 plug has an outer shell that is designed to withstand rain and snow when connected to the vehicle socket. The vehicle socket is also designed to be waterproof and should therefore provide protection against water ingress when the Type 2 plug is connected. Water can often enter the Type 2 plug when the plug cap is replaced after charging. The plug cap must always be replaced after charging your vehicle, but make sure that the inside of the plug cap is dry. Do not leave the plug outdoors, drag the Type 2 plug across the ground, or drop it. Store the charger in a dry place when not in use.

My vehicle model is not listed. Is it still compatible with this charger?

If your vehicle has a CCS socket or Type 2 socket, then this charger is fully compatible with your vehicle. Please read the information in the product details to see a photo of what a CCS or Type 2 socket looks like.

Can I use this charger with a generator?

The CEE charger will work with a generator that has a pure sine wave and a neutral-earth bond, otherwise there would be issues with the vehicle and charger failing the initial safety checks. The generator must also have protection to ensure that it does not damage the charger when it is connected, surge protection for example. You should be able confirm this with the manufacturer of the generator or the dealer. Also, ensure that the voltage of the generator is compatible with 200V to 240V appliances.

Can I use a plug adapter?

No, we do not recommend using an adapter with this charger as they can interfere with the in-built safety mechanisms. You must only connect this charger to a single phase 16A CEE / camping socket. If you require connections to different sockets, please read about our multi-adapter charger.
