Please Read Before You Buy
Our cables are normally returned for one of the reasons below. Reading this information may help you to avoid having to send your order back to us. Please also read the information further down the page as it contains important information about this Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable.
Is your vehicle already supplied with a Type 2 charging cable? Please ask your dealer / seller if they have included an EV cable with your vehicle.
Is your cable long enough? Measure the length from your wall charger to where your vehicle will usually be parked (the Type 2 vehicle socket is usually on the right side, to the rear of the vehicle) and add half a metre to avoid overstretch. If you are using the charging cable with a public charging point, a length of 5 metres is recommended as the 3 metre length can sometimes be too short.
Is this an extension cable? No. It cannot be used to daisy chain / convert a tethered cable or home / mains charger. It can only be used to plug directly in to the Type 2 socket of the charging point.
Is this the correct type of charging cable for my vehicle? If you know that your vehicle has a Type 2 socket, then this Type 2 cable is compatible with your vehicle. If you are unsure, check the list of Type 2 electric vehicles below or use our EV Cable Finder.
Is this a rapid charging cable? This is not a CCS cable. If you want a cable to use with a DC rapid charger, you do not need to buy one as the cable is always attached to the unit.

Use A BMW X1 Compatible 22kW Spiral Cable For Connecting All Models Of The BMW X1 To A Type 2 Socket Charging Point
Our 22kW Type 2 to Type 2 spiral charging cable will provide up to 22kW and can be plugged into the Type 2 socket of the BMW X1 and any Type 2 charging point that does not have a cable already attached to it. It does not matter if the charging point is 3 Phase or 1 Phase because the charging point will work out how much current your BMW X1 will accept and how much current the cable can handle. The cable can therefore be used with ALL Type 2 charging points with an open socket and the Type 2 socket of the BMW X1. This cable is not an extension cable and it will not work if it is connected to another Type 2 plug. It is therefore not suitable for charging points with a cable already attached to it (a tethered cable) or as an extension for any other charging cable The working length of a spiral cable is about 2 metres below their stated length.
9 hole Type 2 / CCS socket and a 7 hole Type 2 socket
Is This 22kW Spiral Cable Compatible With The BMW X1?
Choosing The Correct Charging Cable
Our Type 2 coiled cables adhere to the IEC 62196-2 standard. This ensures compatibility with Type 2 socket charging points and any Type 2 socket-equipped vehicle, such as the BMW X1.
The vehicle and charging point will communicate with each other to ensure they deliver the precise amount of current to the vehicle. Therefore, it does not matter if a charging cable can supply more power than the vehicle can accept.
This cable is therefore suitable for charging the Type 2 socket of the BMW X1. Please note that the manufacturer of this vehicle did not manufacture this charging cable.
Most electric vehicles sold in Europe come with a Type 2 socket, which may have either a 7 hole charging socket or a 9 hole CCS socket. CCS (Combined Charging Socket), accommodates the Type 2 cable in its 7 hole upper chamber.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to charge my vehicle with a 22kW charging cable?
Yes. This cable is ideal for safely charging the BMW X1. The charging cable is UKCA and CE certified to ensure that the cable is compliant with the standards required for charging a Type 2 socket vehicle. The charging point and vehicle will also carry out checks before charging commences to confirm that the cable can be used safely and to ensure that the correct amount of current is provided to the vehicle. It is recommended to refer to our Cable Care Guide for information to help keep the cable in good working order.
Will the cable provide too much current?
No – the charging point and the vehicle makes sure that the current will not exceed more than the cable can carry or more than the vehicle can safely handle. You can therefore use this cable to safely charge the BMW X1.
What are the charging speeds of a Type 2 to Type 2 22kW cable
The guide below displays the approximate range per hour that this cable is capable of providing for each of the most common AC charging rates – 1 Phase 16A (3.7kW), 1 Phase 32A (7.4kW), 3 Phase 16A (11kW) and 3 Phase 32A (22kW).
AC vehicle capacity
Approx. range per hour
1 Phase 16A / 3.7kW
10 to 15 miles
1 Phase 32A / 7.4kW
20 to 30 miles
3-phase 16A / 11kW
30 to 45 miles
3-phase 32A / 22kW
60 to 90 miles
Please note… this table is illustrating the maximum charging speeds that this cable is capable of delivering to a vehicle.
The charging speeds that your vehicle will receive during charging is also influenced by the following factors:
The vehicle’s maximum charging capacity: Your vehicle’s onboard charger must support the cable’s maximum power to reach these speeds. For example, if your vehicle has an 11kW AC onboard charger, using a 22kW cable will still only charge at 11kW. You can click the link to find out more information about the charging rate of the BMW X1.
The power supply: If you are using a 1 Phase 32A wall charger (commonly installed outside homes) the maximum charging rate is 7.4kW. If you are using a 3 Phase 32A charging point (available as public charging points or some wall chargers outside commercial premises), the maximum rate is 22kW.
Charging efficiency: Heavier or less efficient vehicles (SUVs for example) will gain fewer miles per hour, while smaller, more efficient cars will gain more. The health of the battery will also influence the charging speed.
Environmental Factors: Charging speeds and battery efficiency can decrease in cold weather, resulting in slightly fewer miles of range per hour. If the car is charging during a particularly hot day and the plugs become too hot, charging times may take longer if the cable, vehicle socket or charging point overheats.
Can this charging cable be used to charge another vehicle?
Yes. If the vehicle has a CCS or Type 2 socket, this cable will safely charge that vehicle. It is therefore ideal for charging different electric or hybrid vehicles.
Will this cable extend another charging cable?
No. This cable will not work if it is used as an extension charging cable. The cable has to be plugged directly into the socket of a Type 2 charging station or wallbox. It cannot be attached to another Type 2 plug.
Are the cable and plugs waterproof?
Cable: The cable is waterproof as long as there are no cuts or tears in the cable sheath.
Type 2 Plug: The Type 2 plugs are built with an outer shell that will withstand rain and snow when connected to the vehicle socket. So your cable is effectively waterproof when it is charging your vehicle.
A common way for water to enter the Type 2 plugs is when the plug caps are replaced after charging. The plug caps must always be replaced after charging your vehicle, but do ensure that the inside of both plug caps are dry. Avoid leaving the plugs lying around outside, do not drag or drop the Type 2 plugs on the ground and store the charging cable in a dry place when not in use.
Can I power my caravan using this cable?
No. The cable can only be used to plug into the Type 2 socket of an electric or Hybrid vehicle.
Is the cable secure during charging?
The charging station socket and vehicle socket both have locking pins that will insert into the Type 2 plugs when the cable is connected. The locking pins of the vehicle and charging station will therefore stop the plugs from being withdrawn whilst the charging cable is connected.
