Multi Adapter EV Charger. 230V / 400V 3 Pin and Commando Sockets EV Charger. Type 2
Type 2 Multi Adapter Charger For 230V and 380V mains and CEE sockets. 6A, 8A, 10A, 13A, 16A, 20A, 32A
Charge your Type 2 socket EV using multiple power sockets including the 3 Phase 32A and 16A Commando (CEE) socket, 1 Phase 32A and 16A single phase CEE socket and the 3 pin mains / household socket. You can also purchase an adapter for charging your EV using a 2 pin Euro socket (Type F, Schuko plug), which is the most common mains / house socket in mainland Europe.
This multi adapter charger allows the safe connection of adapters, which are purpose built for the charger and will automatically detect the voltage of the socket and auto switch for single phase or 3 Phase charging.
The charger will not exceed the amp rating for the socket where the charger is plugged in. So if the charger is connected to a 13A mains socket, the maximum current will automatically be set to 10A, 16A for a 230V 16A Commando socket, 32A for a 380V 32A Commando socket and so on. The EV will communicate with the charger to ensure that the current it receives is no more than the Onboard charger (OBC) of the vehicle will allow. These CEE chargers are backed by a 2 year warranty and include a durable EVA carry case to store the charger and adapters when not in use. There is also an optional wall bracket that can be purchased if you want to mount the unit indoors.
The multi adapter charger provides a charge from single phase or 3 Phase 6A to 32A. This ranges from around 1.5kW to 22kW, so it can draw current from PV systems (solar panels, Photovoltaic) and can charge your 11kW or 22kW EV dependent upon the maximum current that the power supply can provide. The charger meets the IEC 62752 specification and includes AC 30mA + DC 6mA residual current detection (Type B RCD protection) and a delay timer that allows the charger to start charging from 1 to 8 hours after connection to the vehicle and power outlet.
Please ensure that the socket where you charge your vehicle is certified by a qualified electrician to ensure that the power outlet and circuit is suitable and safe for regular EV charging. The outlet should also be wired to a circuit that is protected by a circuit breaker. Please make sure that the plugs are plugged directly in to the power socket. Do not use another adapter or extension lead. This multi socket EV charger is compatible with all PHEV and BEV with a Type 2 vehicle socke.. Please read your vehicle handbook for further information regarding the use of EV chargers.
Multiple safeguards are built in with this multi adater charger to protect against damage to the vehicle, outlet and charger whilst charging:
- PCB Temperature Sensor
- Earth Fault Monitoring
- Leakage Protection
- Overcurrent Protection
- Overvoltage Protection
- Undervoltage Protection
- Lightning Protection
- Water Resistant
Is this a universal EV charger?
There is not an adapter available to allow charging from a home wall box or public charging point (the Type 2 male plug), so it is not a universal EV charger in this respect. This charger includes 6 adapters to allow your Type 2 socket EV to be charged using the majority of power sockets available including the 13A household / mains socket; 16A and 32A camping sockets; 3 Phase industrial and marine sockets and the 2 pin Euro socket. The multi adapter charger can connect to the power sockets listed below, dependent upon which adapter(s) you decide to purchase:
3 Phase 32A 400V Commando (CEE) 5 pin socket
3 Phase 16A 400V Commando (CEE) 5 pin socket
1 Phase 32A 230V Commando (CEE) 3 pin socket
1 Phase 16A 230V Commando (CEE) 3 pin socket
13A 3 pin 230V socket (Type G socket)
16A 2 pin 230V socket (Type F socket)
Please select the adapters you require by clicking on the button options (the button will turn green when selected) at the top of this page.
This multi adapter charger has adjustable current and a delayed charging timer that allows charging to begin between 1 to 8 hours after the 2 plugs have been plugged in to the power and vehicle socket. The multi adapter charger complies with the IEC 62752 standard for charging the Type 2 socket range of electric vehicles. The built in 30mA AC detection and 6mA DC detection means that the charger can be used with a circuit protected by the minimum Type A or F RCD.
How will the charger know how much current my EV can take?
The multi adapter charger is an EVSE, which follows a protocol that is designed to help keep your EV safe when it is charging. The vehicle and charger use 2 way communication to check the power socket, cable and vehicle in order to apply the maximum amount of current that the power supply can provide, the cable can carry and the vehicle can receive. The correct amount of current will therefore be received by the OBC (Onboard charger) of your EV. The multi adapter charger will automatically stop charging the battery of your electric vehicle once it has reached the required charge limit or when it is fully charged.
Charging cable checklist
To ensure that the cable you purchase is right for you, please read the following checklist:
- Make sure your vehicle has the Type 2 or CCS socket. The photos at the top of the page show you what the pins in the connectors look like so you can match the cable to your vehicle.
- Make sure that the length of the cable is sufficient to reach the charging socket of your vehicle. We recommend allowing at least half a metre so that the cable is not overstretched.
- Please check that you are purchasing the correct adapter for your socket. The 3 Phase Commando socket is red and has 5 holes. The single phase Commando socket is blue and has 3 holes. The socket will also display the amp rating, either on the face of the socket or on the socket cover. If you are not sure, please send us a photo of your socket and the socket cover.
If in doubt, please contact us via our contact page.
Can the charger be used in the rain?
The unit for the charger is IP65 rated, which means it is safe to use when it is raining. However, you should always take care when charging in the rain or if it snowing. Ensure that no water enters the plugs and, if you have an outdoor outlet, make sure it is IP66 rated so that no water can enter the socket or plug. This is also important if you are charging your vehicle in a dusty environment. The Type 2 plug is IP55 rated when it is connected to the socket of the EV (the same as other Type 2 plugs), so always make sure that no water or dust enters the plug and check to see if water has collected inside the plug cap during charging. The multi adapter charger includes an EVA cable case that will help to keep your charger and adapters dry when not in use.
How to use the multi adapter charger
Please read the safety information in the user manual included with this charger before using it. If you do not receive this information, please contact us. Using this multi socket EV charger is straightforward and the instructions are available in the user booklet. Connect the adapter securely to the adapter head on charger and plug the device into the CEE or mains socket to power up the device. The display will light up. The required ampere setting can be selected by clicking the amp button. If delayed charging is required, the timer will need to be set before connecting the charger to the EV. Connect the vehicle charging plug to your vehicle. Your vehicle software will communicate with the device to draw the maximum amount of power that the battery can accept.
