Type 2 Charging Cables
Type 2 charging cables compatible with the Type 2 AC socket of electric (BEV) and hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. The cables on this page include Type 2 to Type 2 Mode 3 charging cables, 230V 3 Pin to Type 2 and 230V and 400V CEE to Type 2, allowing you to charge your vehicle using charging stations, 230V 3 pin sockets and 230V blue or 400V red CEE / Commando sockets. In Europe, the Type 2 plug connection to the charging station is standard. If your electric vehicle has a Type 2 socket, then the Type 2 charging cables listed below are compatible with your car. If your vehicle has a CCS socket, the Type 2 plug is inserted into the upper chamber of the socket.
The Type 2 to Type 2 charging cables we have available are 1 phase 16A (3,7kW), 1 phase 32A (7,4kW), 3 phase 16A (11kW) and 3 phase 32A (22kW). These cables can be used with ANY vehicle with a 7 hole Type 2 socket and ALL 7 hole Type 2 1 Phase or 3 Phase public charging points or home wall chargers, regardless of whether it is 16A or 32A. What you need to know is which Type 2 charging cable is the best fit for your EV. Your vehicle will have an AC onboard charger that will usally be around 3kW, 7kW, 11kW and 22kW and this will allow you to determine which cable is the best fit. The general rule of thumb we use is, if your vehicle charges between 3kW to 7,4kW, the 1 Phase 32A cable is recommended. If your vehicle charges more than 7,4kW, the 3 Phase 32A cable is recommended. Please note that if your vehicle charges 11kW, for example, the 3 Phase 32A cable, although capable of providing up to 22kW current, will only provide 7,4kW if it is connected to a wall charger at your home. This is because homes can only provide single phase electricity unless you arrange to have 3 Phase electricity connected to it. So, if you plan on only charging your vehicle using your home charger, you may as well purchase the 1 Phase 32A cable. Please also note that a few vehicles that charge at around 7kW (some models of Mercedes for example) need a 3 Phase cable to provide the full 7kW. You should be able to find the maximum charging capacity in your vehicle manual and this will usually recommend if you need a 1 Phase or 3 Phase charging cable.
Please bear in mind that these Type 2 charging cables will charge your vehicle regardless of the maximum kW of the charging cable. For example, if you have a Hybrid that only charges up to 3,3kW, you can still use a 22kW charging cable. For a list of current electric cars that are compatible with Type 2 cables, please click on the link below to see the list. If your vehicle is not listed but has a Type 2 AC or CCS socket, then it will be compatible with our charging cables. Don't forget that if you need any help, you can always send us a message and we will send a link to the recommended cable for your EV. Just let us know the model and year of your vehicle and what type of charging cable it is you need.
